There are two main sources for the tabaxi race in 5th edition D&D: Volo’s Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse (click each title for a PDF copy of that book). I will run down the “important to know” information here:
- Ability Score Increase: +2 Dexterity, +1 Charisma
- Size: Medium
- Base walking speed: 30 ft.
- Darkvision: 60 ft.
- Feline Agility: When you move on your turn, you can double your speed until the end of that turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.
- Cat’s Claws: You have a climbing speed of 30 ft. Your claws are natural weapons that deal 1d6 slashing damage (in place of an unarmed strike).
- Cat’s Talent: You gain proficiency in Perception and Stealth.
- Languages: Common, one other of your choice.
I kept most of the original information from Volo’s, but am using the climb speed and claws damage from Mordenkainen.. kind of a “best of both worlds” situation.

Starting in 2024, WotC released an “update” to the 5e stuff. I call it “5.24e” to differentiate between the original 5e release (which was in 2014) and the “update”.
